Yes, it will work with a smooth post - it doesn't need to be ribbed.

Is part 22000 a ABYC-H31 Type AO for a helm seat or AN for a passenger seat?

I think your photo is Garelick Part No. 21000, which is ribbed. Garelick Part No. 22000, according to their catalog is smooth. The seat post on my boat is ribbed and I am pretty sure the mechanism needed is Garelick Part No. 22000 (smooth). Before I order three of these can you please verify I am ordering the correct part?
