Boat part number 1051967 is a new old stock sending unit from Fireboy Xintex TS-27 403 . Commonly used on Rinker Boats, part number unavailable.
Sending unit length should be a minimum of one 1" less than the plastic tank depth, and three quarters 3/4" less than the metal tank depth. If metal tank surface flexes, deduct one 1" from the depth, like plastic tank.
Designed to fit tanks with 1-1/2" NPT threaded top port. (Threads actually measure approximately 1 3/4" diameter with a tape measure). Measures approximately 27" tall from underside of flange to bottom of sending unit. Has 2 pin female connection.

I'm afraid we don't know if that can be done. We aren't dealers and haven't heard of anyone cutting them down. About our only suggestion would be to contact Xintex directly.
