Hello Sam,
It would be a 3/8" flat head, but the length is going to depend on how deep into your deck you want it to go. Typically about an inch, but that's subjective.

What is this coated with? Any chance the mild steel will rust?

Hi Mark,
I'm sorry, we don't know the specific make up of the coating. You'd need to check with Springfield on that. If there is any significant chipping - which can happen over time, yes there could be some rust.
